Recently my buddy showed me his new toy that he'd bought. It's was the Lowrance HDS-5 with Lake Insight and StructureScan. He'd bought it with the Lake Insight map, choosing to pay a little more for the high definition and detail of the Insight maps versus the base map. The only problem is that my buddy is not a Techie and asked me to help him figure out the new unit. So we set aside a Saturday to install the unit and go out to the lake and try it out. I looked forward to it since I could see what the Lowrance HDS-5 could do and hopefully get enough info to report back to you good folks here at Fish Finder Reviews.

Garmin 550c Review
New fish finders just amaze me. Just when it seems they can't possibly get any better, somehow they do. I guess 30 years ago someone was saying the same thing and I bet in another 30, they'll still be saying the same thing! The Garmin echo 550c is a unit that impresses me even though I have a Humminbird 1197ci and a Humminbird 798ci si and a Humminbird 596 hd di (just to name a few 
). I honestly didn't think the Garmin could do anything that my birds couldn't do and I was almost right.
Humminbird 1197-1198 Review
I first thought about doing this Humminbird 1197 review shortly after buying it last March. But I really wanted to get to know how to use it and learn the ins and outs of this machine before writing about it. I'll tell you right up front that I've owned and used fish finders since I was a teenager back in the late 70's and early 80's. They have sure come a long way since those old Lowrance whirling thingamajigs!

RAM Mount For Humminbird 1197 Review – RAM-D-111U-C
If you're a new Humminbird 1197 or 1198 side imaging owner, then you probably feel the way I do about my Hbird 1197. I want to do whatever it takes to protect my investment! I mean, any fish finder that cost what a 1197 cost is worth spending a few extra bucks to protect. That's why I searched out a RAM mount for my Humminbird 1197 instead of mounting it directly to my console with the included bracket.
